Project Overview

At first glance, it would be easy to assume that this grand 2-storey Federation-style residence had stood proudly at its enviable Centennial Park address for well over a century. In fact, this refined home is a new build, astutely designed by the creative team at Weir Phillips Architects and brilliantly executed by the build team at Reform Projects. Completed in 2023, the home is the epitome of classic elegance, blending seamlessly with the heritage charm of the surrounding homes at this premium Sydney locale.

Acacia was commissioned to produce high-quality internal and external timber doors and windows for the main house and the cabana/studio, to complement the home’s heritage aesthetic. The project scope encompassed a wide array of window types including an incredible double-height, multi-pane window unit for the stairwell, a magnificent curved multi-bay window for the study, and a variety of fixed, double hung, arched and porthole windows.

In addition, Acacia manufactured the oversized, detailed front door, a number of panelled internal doors, French door units for both the ground and first floor, as well as custom timber louvres and screens. Flooded Gum, in a range of painted finishes, was the timber of choice; selected for its high visual appeal, versatility, robust nature and sustainability.

The intricate nature of the various traditional style windows and doors was the most challenging aspect of the project overall, particularly given a limited production window. Thorough planning and extensive consultation between Acacia and both the architect and build teams was required to ensure that every detail was well considered at each project stage from design through to installation.

The impressive curved multi-bay window for the home’s study, which also forms a prominent feature in the home’s facade, was the most demanding single element. Encompassing nine individual casement windows, it was essential that the unit’s design was as elegant as it was functional. Seamless integration with the aesthetics of the residence was vital.

As is often the case with projects of this scale, time was a critical element, again requiring close communication and coordination with the build team.

The project’s challenges were successfully met with enthusiasm by the Acacia team. During the design stage, the building in its entirety was carefully considered. This ensured that, not only would each individual element be designed to perfection, but that the home, upon completion, would have a cohesive appearance. Refined, tailored solutions were developed by our team, in close collaboration with the architect, to ensure that the design intent was fully realised.

Comprehensive shop drawings were then produced, to capture the detailed design of each window and door unit, and to provide important documentation for both our in-house production team and the construction team. Traditional joinery methods, including solid glazing bars, were employed in the manufacture of the many multi-light windows required by the project. These are most evident in the large stairwell window, French doors, side-light windows, single hinged doors, and the curved casement window unit.

This beautiful Centennial Park residence is testament to considered design, excellence in building and bespoke solutions. The attention to detail employed when meticulously designing and manufacturing each door and window is clearly evident. The external windows and doors, in particular, are integral to the success of the façade, contributing to the highly bespoke, refined aesthetics of the property.

Project Testimonial

“Reform Projects have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Acacia. From the tender stage with Aaron through to installation, manufacture and delivery with Russell, the transitions were seamless. Acacia issued a factory schedule that was achieved and aligned with the builder’s programme and delivered a defect-free product.

I would highly recommend Acacia to fellow colleagues. I look forward to working together again on our next job.”
